Stop Motion

I set up a tripod and photographed each fold creating a stop motion animation. This was the only way forward because to recreate a fold in After Effects requires a lot of time and deals with 3D spacing which was too much to learn and get my head around in the time available.
I found it difficult when it came to making a transition to the next word. Originally I wanted to fold the word away, but by experimenting in the shoot I worked out I could just blow the letters away and capture this by lowering the shutter speed.

Taking inspiration from Apeloig's poster, I took four pieces of paper and folded the corners over to create the letters f,o,l and d. It seemed to work but I needed to work out (above post) how each letter would look and how each letter would work when put into a word, i.e. would it be legible?

The Owl

The Owl is an animation that uses a limited colour palette. I like how powerful black and white can be used with splashes of colour eg. close up of birds eye. I think it was created using a mixture of hand drawn sketches, Photoshop and Illustrator files imported into a program like After Effects.

This is a font called A4 from www.typographyserved.com by a design studio called Handmade Font (www.handmadefont.com). I wanted to create something similar for the word 'fold' because it seemeds an obvious design choice - folding a piece of paper into the shape of a letter.

The following clips show the completion of one of my words. The two clips with a pink background highlight how I have managed to make the word write itself. I animated solid white shapes (the same colour as the background) over the top of the fixed word.

Connect (Working Out)

At first I found it hard and quite a challenge to connect together the word 'connect'. The problem I had to overcome was that the obvious place to join the word together was in the middle. Joining two N's looks like the letter 'M' which results in the word not reading the way it should. I worked out I could make the letter 'N' run off the page and back on again giving the illusion of it combining with the rest of the word without physically doing it.
